The Easiest 4 ingredient Organic Body Butter Ever!
This is the easiest body butter recipe you’ll ever make and it contains only 4 ingredients. Plus it’s cheap and versatile! You can substitute the jojoba oil for any of your favorite skin care oils such as sweet almond oil or vitamin e oil. For dry skin, you could use olive oil for example. For oily skin try grapeseed because it has a light consistency that won’t leave your skin greasy. If you have normal skin, it may be best to use jojoba oil as suggested in the recipe. Also note that the essential oil is totally optional. In place of lavender essential oil you can use any other essential oils you choose!
Why Is Organic Best?
It is best to care for skin by applying natural, non-toxic and preferably organic products. Organic means your ingredients come from plants grown naturally without using harmful pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMO (genetically modified organisms).
Many skin care products are created in the laboratory from synthetic chemicals (talk about gross?!). And many of the ingredients in these products used as preservatives are downright dangerous to your health.
Anything you apply to your skin is absorbed by the body to some extent. These chemicals gradually build up, possibly causing a host of problems in the future. If you have skin problems such as dry skin or acne, essential oils are a natural manner of treating your skin. Natural and organic ingredients truly nourish and repair skin. Chemical store-bought products are more like quick fixes but with sometimes lasting ill-effects.
Ingredient Description
This organic body butter is made with unrefined shea butter, extra virgin coconut oil, jojoba oil and 100% pure lavender essential oil (or any other oil you prefer). Each ingredient has many benefits for your skin!
Shea Butter is a plant butter made from the nut of the African Shea Tree. Shea butter has been used since ancient times as a moisturizer. It can seal moisture into skin while giving it a beautiful glow. It may even diminish stretch marks, soften rough skin and form a protective barrier that shields the skin from harsh winds, biting colds and strong sun.
Coconut Oil is very penetrating. It sinks right into the skin without clogging the pores when applied! It also protects the skin from dryness and chaffing as it deeply moisturizes. Just like shea butter, coconut oil is known to protect the skin against sunburn by blocking around 20% of harmful UV rays. Coconut oil also has antimicrobial properties that fend off germs!
Jojoba Oil is an amazing skin care oil that even possesses anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it good for soothing rashes, relieving redness and calming inflammation. It also locks moisture in, keeping skin smooth, soft and supple.
Lavender Essential Oil comes from fresh and fragrant lavender flowers. It is amazing for skin. Lavender is good for calming irritated skin due to many anti-inflammatory properties. Lavender also has anti-aging properties that fight off free radicals known to contribute to premature fine lines and wrinkles. Frankincense is also great for the skin as well.
Ingredients
½ cup of unrefined shea butter (my favorite here)
¼ cup of organic extra virgin coconut oil (my favorite here)
¼ cup of jojoba oil (my favorite here)
15 drops of lavender or other essential oil (my favorite here)
Directions
1. In a double boiler melt shea butter, coconut oil and jojoba oil. You can also use a glass bowl lowered into water in a pot on a stove.
2. Once melted, remove and place in the freezer for 10 minutes to cool off and partially turn solid. It should be in a creamy form that you can mix with a spoon. This enables you to easily whip into a soft body butter!
3. Remove mixture from freezer and add the lavender or other essential oil.
4. Using a hand mixer, whip with a hand mixer for about 3-5 minutes.
5. Yay! Scoop your organic body butter into a jar!
Notes
Important: If it feels greasy, add 1 tsp of arrow root powder and mix well – this will cut down the oiliness.
This organic body butter will last for a while – 6 months plus! Keep away from water and other contaminants and always use clean your hands prior to scooping from the container.
You can still make this body butter without a hand mixer. Just replace a whisk or strong spoon for the hand mixer to blend ingredients vigorously for 7-10 minutes until you form a white mixture. This takes more time but gives similar results.
